Reno Omokri Praises Tinubu, Says President Rescued Nigeria’s Economy and Oyo Schoolchildren

Reno Omokri Praises Tinubu’s Leadership, Says President Rescued Oyo Schoolchildren and Nigeria’s Economy

Political commentator and former presidential aide Reno Omokri has publicly praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as a leader who has not only overseen the successful rescue of the abducted schoolchildren in Oriire, Oyo State, but has also helped revive Nigeria’s economy.

In a statement shared on social media, Omokri argued that Nigeria has experienced remarkable economic progress since President Tinubu assumed office in 2023. He attributed improvements in the country’s financial markets and investor confidence to the administration’s economic reforms.

One of the key points raised by Omokri was the performance of the Nigerian stock market. According to him, the total market capitalisation of the Nigerian Exchange has grown significantly since the end of 2022. He stated that the market, which stood at approximately ₦27.9 trillion before the current administration took office, has expanded to more than ₦156 trillion.

Omokri described this growth as evidence of renewed investor confidence and claimed that Nigeria’s stock market has become one of the world’s strongest-performing equity markets during the period.

Beyond economic issues, Omokri also praised the Federal Government for the successful rescue of pupils and teachers who were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. He credited President Tinubu and the country’s security agencies for the operation, describing the rescue as a major achievement in the fight against kidnapping and insecurity. The victims were freed after spending several weeks in captivity following a coordinated operation involving security agencies.

In his statement, Omokri expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, saying he and his family appreciated what they viewed as the administration’s efforts to improve Nigeria’s security and economic outlook. He thanked the President for what he described as decisive leadership during a challenging period for the country.

Omokri’s comments have generated debate across the political landscape. Supporters of the administration point to indicators such as stock market performance, increased foreign investor interest in some sectors, and ongoing economic reforms as signs of progress. Critics, however, argue that many Nigerians continue to face high inflation, rising food prices, unemployment, and increased living costs. They contend that improvements in financial market indicators do not necessarily reflect the day-to-day economic experiences of ordinary citizens.

As a result, assessments of the administration’s economic performance remain sharply divided along political and policy lines.

Like many public commentators, Reno Omokri openly expresses political opinions. His statement represents his personal assessment of President Tinubu’s performance and should be viewed in that context. Economic performance can be measured using different indicators—including stock market growth, inflation, employment, exchange rates, investment flows, and household purchasing power. Different observers often place different emphasis on these measures, leading to contrasting conclusions about the overall state of the economy.

Reno Omokri’s latest remarks add to the ongoing national conversation about President Tinubu’s leadership.

While he praised the administration for improvements in the Nigerian stock market and for the rescue of the Oyo schoolchildren, others continue to debate whether these developments fully reflect the country’s broader economic and social realities.

As discussions continue, Nigerians are likely to judge government performance through both official economic data and their own everyday experiences.
