Governor Alex Otti Declines Chieftaincy Title, Reaffirms No-Award Policy While in Office

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has respectfully declined a chieftaincy title offered to him by traditional rulers in the state, reiterating his long-standing decision not to accept honours while serving in office.

The governor made it clear that his position remains unchanged since his inauguration, that he would not receive any chieftaincy titles, honorary doctorates, or awards during his tenure.

Governor Otti recalled that on the day he assumed office, he openly informed the people of Abia State of his resolve to remain focused solely on governance without the distractions of ceremonial recognitions.

According to him, the decision was taken to ensure that his administration remains fully committed to service delivery and development.

While declining the honour, the governor expressed gratitude to the traditional rulers for the recognition and goodwill shown towards him.

He acknowledged their role in promoting unity, stability, and development across communities in Abia State.

Governor Otti emphasized that his decision should not be interpreted as a rejection of the honour itself.

Rather, he assured the traditional rulers that he would gladly accept such recognitions after the completion of his tenure in 2031.
