The arrests were announced by the Northern Regional Police Command, which said the suspects, identified as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, were apprehended following intelligence-led operations near the Ghana-Togo border. According to police, the case is being investigated as a homicide, with preliminary findings pointing to a dispute over proceeds from alleged internet fraud activities.

Authorities said the body of 36-year-old Nkemujika Uzochukwu Eze was discovered in his bedroom on Saturday, July 11, 2026. Police officers who responded to the scene reportedly found the victim with a deep cut wound to the forehead and a towel stuffed into his mouth. Investigators also observed that the bedroom had been ransacked.

During a search of the premises, officers recovered a wooden pestle believed to have been used in the attack, along with other items that have been sent for forensic examination.

Following the discovery of the body, police launched an investigation that led to the arrest of the two suspects in Tamale near the Ghana-Togo border. According to the police statement, the suspects allegedly admitted during interrogation that they conspired to kill the deceased after a disagreement over the sharing of money from alleged internet fraud operations. Authorities have not yet disclosed the full details of the alleged fraud activities, and investigations remain ongoing.

Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased shared a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzochukwu, the two suspects, and another Nigerian national identified as Godwin Nwafor. Investigators are continuing to question all relevant witnesses as they work to establish the full sequence of events that led to the death.

After the scene was processed, the victim’s body was transported to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where a medical officer confirmed him dead. The body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy, which is expected to provide additional information about the cause and circumstances of death.

The Northern Regional Police Command said the investigation is still ongoing and that the suspects are expected to face legal proceedings in Ghana. Authorities also indicated that forensic examinations and additional witness interviews are being conducted to strengthen the case and determine whether other individuals may have been involved.

The case has drawn attention to concerns about cross-border criminal activities involving foreign nationals in parts of West Africa. Security analysts say cooperation between regional law enforcement agencies remains essential in tackling internet fraud, trafficking networks, and other transnational crimes that often operate across multiple countries.
