Security operatives have arrested four suspected bandits near Akure Airport following a security alert that raised fears of a potential threat around the airport environment. The suspects were apprehended during a joint security operation involving the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Air Force, and the Nigeria Police Force.  The swift response by the security agencies reportedly prevented what could have escalated into a serious security situation around the airport.


Reports indicate that the situation began when farmers working near the airport environment noticed suspicious armed men moving close to their farmland around the Eleyewo area of Akure in Ondo State. Alarmed by the sight, the farmers reportedly ran toward the airport vicinity and alerted authorities.

Airport security officials immediately activated emergency protocols, prompting a rapid joint security deployment to the area.


When security forces arrived at the location, the suspected criminals reportedly attempted to flee the scene. However, security operatives quickly cordoned off the area and launched a coordinated pursuit, leading to the arrest of four suspects. The arrested individuals were later handed over to the police for further interrogation and investigation. Authorities are now working to determine whether the suspects were planning an attack, kidnapping operation, or other criminal activities in the area.


     The incident has renewed concerns about growing security threats in parts of southwestern Nigeria, particularly in rural communities around Ondo State. Over the past few years, residents in several communities have reported increasing cases of kidnapping, banditry, and armed attacks.Because of this, security agencies have intensified surveillance around critical national infrastructure, including airports.

Officials say the quick coordination between FAAN aviation security personnel and the military played a crucial role in neutralizing the threat before it could escalate. Security authorities have also reassured the public that airports across the country remain under strict monitoring to ensure passenger safety.

Investigations are currently ongoing to determine whether the suspects are linked to a larger criminal network operating in the region.
