Troops Recover ₦37 Million, Kill Boko Haram Commander in Borno Operation

Troops Recover ₦37 Million, Neutralise Boko Haram Commander in Borno

Troops of the Nigeria Army under the Operation Hadin Kai have recovered approximately ₦37 million suspected to be linked to terrorist financing and neutralised a Boko Haram commander during coordinated operations in Borno State.

According to official military sources, the cash was intercepted at a Forward Operating Base checkpoint in the North-East during a routine security operation. Troops reportedly stopped a suspicious vehicle and discovered the large sum of money along with several mobile phones believed to be connected to insurgent logistics networks.

The military indicated that the seizure forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist supply chains and cut off financial channels sustaining insurgent activities in the region.

In a separate but related engagement, troops engaged insurgents in the Pulka and Mandaragirau axis of Gwoza Local Government Area, where a senior Boko Haram commander identified as Abou Aisha was fatally wounded during a gun battle.

Security sources described the development as a significant operational gain in the fight against insurgency in the North-East, noting that targeting both leadership figures and financial resources is central to weakening extremist groups.

The North-East region, particularly Borno State, has remained a focal point of military operations against Boko Haram and its splinter factions. Operation Hadin Kai continues to conduct clearance missions, patrols, and intelligence-driven raids aimed at restoring stability and preventing regrouping by insurgent elements.

Military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist groups, stressing that cutting off funding streams is as crucial as direct combat engagements.

The recovered funds are expected to undergo further investigation to determine their origin and intended destination. Meanwhile, security operations across Borno State remain active as troops maintain heightened surveillance across key flashpoints.

The latest development underscores continued efforts by Nigerian forces to degrade insurgent capacity through coordinated financial disruption and battlefield operations.
