South African Police Arrest Female Suspect Over Murder of Nigerian Bolt Driver

South Africa Police Service Arrest Female Suspect Over Killing of Nigerian Bolt Driver

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed the arrest of a female suspect in connection with the murder of a Nigerian e-hailing driver in Gauteng Province.

Police officials said the suspect was taken into custody following investigations into the fatal attack on a driver who was operating on the Bolt platform. The incident reportedly occurred in the Pretoria area earlier this week.

According to preliminary findings released by SAPS, the victim had picked up passengers shortly before the attack. Authorities allege that the suspects assaulted him and later fled with his vehicle. His body was subsequently discovered in a separate location, while the vehicle was recovered as part of the investigation.

The arrested woman is expected to face charges including murder and vehicle hijacking. Police indicated that she would appear before a magistrate’s court in Gauteng, where formal charges are expected to be presented. Investigators have also confirmed that efforts are ongoing to locate additional suspects believed to be connected to the crime.

SAPS spokespersons condemned the circulation of graphic footage linked to the incident on social media, urging members of the public to refrain from sharing such material out of respect for the victim’s family and to avoid interfering with the investigation.

The killing has sparked renewed concerns about the safety of e-hailing drivers in South Africa, particularly those working night shifts or operating in high-risk areas. Industry stakeholders and community groups have repeatedly called for enhanced safety measures, including stricter passenger verification systems and improved collaboration between ride-hailing companies and law enforcement.

His death has triggered reactions both within South Africa and among Nigerians in the diaspora, with many demanding justice.

Authorities have assured the public that the case is being treated with urgency. Police say further arrests may follow as investigations continue.

The matter is expected to proceed through the South African judicial system in the coming days.
