Nigerian Man Shot Dead in Johannesburg: Community Demands Justice

The Nigerian community in South Africa is in mourning following the death of Emeka Uzor, a Nigerian national who was shot dead in Johannesburg on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

According to reports, Uzor, who hailed from Nkerefi in Nkanu East Local Government Area, Enugu State, was shot while inside his vehicle at a Caltex garage in Windsor East, Randburg. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation by South African authorities.

The killing has sparked outrage among Nigerian residents in the country. The Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA), which represents Nigerians living in South Africa, described the incident as deeply troubling and called for a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure justice is served.

Other community bodies, including the Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa (NICASA), condemned the killing, labeling it a grave human rights violation. They have urged South African law enforcement agencies to provide answers and protect Nigerians residing in the country from further incidents of violence.

This tragic event has highlighted ongoing concerns regarding the safety of foreign nationals in South Africa, particularly Nigerians, who have previously faced harassment and targeted attacks in certain areas. Community leaders emphasized the need for stronger security measures and closer engagement between South African authorities and the Nigerian community to prevent future tragedies.
