Police Arrest Mother and Daughter Over Killing of 70-Year-Old Grandmother in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a woman and her daughter over the killing of a 70-year-old grandmother in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State. The suspects, identified as Loretta Asadu and her daughter Chikamso, were taken into custody following the death of the elderly woman, popularly known as Mama Oliver, in Ezema Nru community.

According to reports, the deceased had relocated from Umabor-Ehalumona to live with her daughter in order to assist in caring for her, as she was said to be battling mental health challenges. Tragically, what began as a supportive visit reportedly ended in violence after the elderly woman was accused of stealing money.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that tensions escalated within the household prior to the incident. Sources claimed, Loretta’s son had stepped out to purchase food for the deceased. Due to concerns about Loretta’s unstable behavior, she had reportedly been restrained but Chikamso allegedly untied her.

Both suspects were then said to have attacked the elderly woman using sharp weapons. The attack reportedly resulted in fatal injuries.

The Enugu State Police Command confirmed that both suspects are now in custody and that investigations are ongoing. Authorities are expected to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident, assess the mental health claims involved and decide on appropriate legal charges.
