FG Files Three-Count Charge Against Nasir El-Rufai Over Alleged NSA Communication Interception
Federal Government Charges Nasir El-Rufai Over Alleged Interception of NSA’s Communications
The Federal Government has filed a three-count criminal charge against former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over the alleged unlawful interception of communications belonging to Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
The charges were filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, marking the latest legal development involving the former governor.
According to court documents referenced in national reports, the Federal Government accused El-Rufai of being linked to the interception of electronic communications connected to the National Security Adviser. The charges are said to stem from statements he allegedly made during a televised interview in which he discussed issues surrounding surveillance and monitoring.
The three counts reportedly include:
Alleged unlawful interception of electronic communications;
Failure to report knowledge of individuals involved in the alleged interception;
Actions considered contrary to provisions of Nigeria’s communications and cybercrime laws.
Prosecutors are relying on provisions within the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act and the Nigerian Communications Act, both of which criminalize unauthorized access to or interference with private communications.
The case has been entered before the Federal High Court, where El-Rufai is expected to respond to the charges during formal arraignment proceedings. As with all criminal matters, the former governor remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty by the court.

No final judgment has been delivered, and the matter is now subject to judicial determination.
The development follows heightened political exchanges in recent weeks involving senior political figures. However, the present legal action specifically concerns the alleged interception of communications tied to the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Further updates are expected as the case progresses through the court system.
