EFCC Arraigns Gidado Ibrahim Over Alleged N603.4m NNPC Job Scam in Abuja

EFCC Arraigns Two Over Alleged N603.4 Million NNPC Job Scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned one Gidado Ibrahim and another suspect, Halimat Adenike Tejusho, who is currently at large, over an alleged N603.4 million job scam linked to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Ibrahim was brought before Justice H. Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Maitama, Abuja, on Monday, February 9, 2026. The defendants are facing an amended six-count charge bordering on fraud, obtaining money under false pretence, and forgery.

According to the EFCC, the alleged offences were committed between August and October 2024, during which the defendants allegedly collected the sum of N603,400,000 from a victim, Oluseye Yomi-Sholoye. The money was reportedly obtained under the false claim that the suspects could facilitate her appointment as the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the NNPC.

At the court session, prosecution counsel, Y. Tarfa, informed the court of the amended charges and requested that the defendant be allowed to take his plea. One of the charges stated that the defendants knowingly made false representations to the victim, an act said to contravene Section 1(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.

Another count accused Ibrahim of using a forged document titled “Presidential Villa State House, Office of the National Security Adviser”, an offence allegedly contrary to Sections 366 and 364 of the Penal Code Law.

When the charges were read, Ibrahim pleaded not guilty to all six counts.

Following the plea, the prosecution asked the court to fix a trial date and remand the defendant in a correctional facility. However, defence counsel, B.B. Alhaji, informed the court that a bail application had been filed but was not yet ripe for hearing. He requested that the defendant be kept in EFCC custody instead, citing health concerns.

Justice Muazu adjourned the case to February 17, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Facility pending further proceedings.

The EFCC says investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to apprehend the second suspect currently at large.
