I Am Still in Labour Party, But Nobody Knows Tomorrow” — Otti Speaks on Political Future

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has reaffirmed that he remains a member of the Labour Party (LP), while openly acknowledging that the future of his political alignment cannot be guaranteed.

The governor made this statement during a recent interaction with journalists, addressing growing speculation about possible defections by elected officials ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“I am still in the Labour Party,” Otti said, adding pointedly that “nobody knows tomorrow.”

Governor Otti’s comment appears to strike a balance between loyalty to his current party and realism about Nigeria’s fluid political environment. While he did not announce any intention to defect, his remarks suggest an awareness of how political dynamics can evolve over time.

Observers note that Otti carefully avoided making absolute commitments, choosing instead to focus on governance rather than partisan politics.

The Abia governor emphasized that his primary responsibility is delivering good governance to the people of the state, regardless of political distractions. Since assuming office, Otti has consistently highlighted his administration’s focus on economic reforms, infrastructure renewal, and institutional transparency.

Political analysts believe his remarks were meant to calm speculation without tying his hands ahead of future political negotiations.

Otti’s comments come amid internal challenges within the Labour Party and a broader wave of political realignments across the country as politicians position themselves for the next election cycle.

While some have interpreted his words as a hint of future movement, others see it as a cautious and pragmatic statement common in Nigerian politics, where alliances often shift closer to election periods.

For now, Governor Otti remains firmly in the Labour Party. However, his acknowledgment that “nobody knows tomorrow” keeps political watchers alert and underscores the unpredictable nature of Nigerian politics.

Until any formal announcement is made, his statement leaves room for interpretation, but no immediate change.
