Catholic Priest Urges Abia Govt to Open Donation Account to Support Alex Otti’s Projects
Catholic Priest Calls for Public Donation Platform to Support Alex Otti’s Development Projects in Abia
A Catholic priest and public commentator, Rev. Fr. Angelo Chidi Unegbu, has called on the Abia State Government to consider creating an official donation or fundraising account to allow well-meaning Nigerians support Governor Alex Otti’s development projects financially.
In a public message shared recently, Fr. Unegbu disclosed that he has received numerous enquiries from people, both within and outside Abia State, asking whether the state government has published bank details for donations aimed at supporting ongoing developmental efforts.
According to him, many individuals, including Nigerians from the northern part of the country, have expressed genuine interest in contributing financially to projects being executed by the Abia State Government under Governor Otti’s leadership.
“Many people are contacting me to find out if the Abia state government has published the bank details for donations to support Alex Otti’s projects”, he wrote.
Fr. Unegbu suggested that if no such donation platform currently exists, the government could consider setting one up, strictly tied to specific projects, with clear cost breakdowns and goals. He proposed a model where donors know exactly which project they are supporting, how much is required, and when a project is completed before moving on to another.
This approach, he noted, would ensure transparency, accountability, and trust, while also giving citizens a sense of direct participation in governance and development.
Interestingly, the priest clarified that he is not from Abia State, yet he and his friends are willing to donate as an expression of solidarity and encouragement for what they perceive as credible and people-focused governance.
He described the growing interest in donating as a rare moment where governance inspires voluntary civic support across ethnic, regional, and religious lines.
Beyond the call for donations, Fr. Unegbu used the opportunity to make a broader statement about leadership in Nigeria. He expressed hope that other public office holders would take lessons from Governor Otti’s approach to governance.
In his words, the enthusiasm to donate is proof that good governance is not only possible but rewarding, adding pointedly that “the Black man is not cursed,” a phrase often used to challenge narratives of failure and hopelessness in African leadership.

As of now, there has been no official announcement from the Abia State Government regarding the creation of a donation or fundraising account. Supporters and interested donors, however, say they are patiently waiting for guidance on how to channel their goodwill into tangible support.
Whether the government takes up this proposal or not, the development highlights a rare scenario in Nigeria’s political space, where citizens are actively seeking ways to financially support a sitting government based on perceived performance rather than compulsion.
