Enugu Police Neutralize Kidnap Suspect in Dramatic Highway Shootout


In a decisive move against armed crime, Enugu State police operatives neutralized a suspected kidnapper during a high-tension encounter on the Adani–Nsukka Highway. The incident, which occurred on Monday, January 18, 2026, saw officers intercepting a criminal gang reportedly planning an abduction.


According to local reports, the police, acting on intelligence about suspicious activities along the highway, approached a group of men acting suspiciously near the roadside. Upon sighting the officers, the suspects allegedly opened fire, prompting a gun battle that ended with one suspect fatally wounded. During the operation, police recovered an AK-47 rifle, confirming the deadly intent of the criminal gang.


Other members of the gang reportedly fled into nearby bushes and surrounding areas. Security forces have since launched a manhunt to apprehend the fleeing suspects, urging residents to report any unusual activity to the authorities.
