2026 UTME Registration: Complete Guide to Fees, Timeline, and Guidelines

2026 UTME Registration: Fees, Timeline, and Everything Candidates Must Know

The 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration is officially underway, marking the start of a crucial process for students seeking admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across Nigeria. Aspiring candidates are advised to carefully follow the registration rules, timelines, and payment guidelines to avoid issues that could disqualify them from sitting for the exam.

For 2026, UTME registration will run over a clearly defined window to allow all candidates ample time to register:

-Start of registration: January 26, 2026

-Closing date: February 28, 2026

Candidates planning to register for Direct Entry (DE) into higher institutions can begin their registration slightly later, with the period running from early March to late April 2026.

Students are required to pay an official fee to complete the UTME registration. The breakdown is as follows:

-UTME registration without mock exam: ₦7,200

-UTME registration with optional mock exam: ₦8,700

-Direct Entry registration: ₦5,700

These fees cover the cost of processing, system charges at accredited CBT centres, and other administrative costs. Candidates are advised to purchase e-PINs only from approved outlets and avoid paying extra fees outside the official charges.

Eligible candidates must:

-Be 16 years or older by September 30, 2026

-Possess valid O-Level results (WAEC, NECO, or equivalent)

-Have a National Identification Number (NIN)

-Provide an active email address and phone number

Candidates younger than 16 may require special approval to register, depending on their academic readiness.

During registration, candidates will need to provide:

-A recent passport photograph

-NIN or proof of application

-Correct personal details (names, date of birth, contact information)

-Choice of course and institution

Careful attention must be paid to details because errors could affect eligibility or result processing.

The 2026 UTME is scheduled to take place from April 16 to April 25, 2026. Candidates who wish to participate in the optional mock UTME may do so a few weeks before the main exam, typically in late March 2026.

Completing registration and obtaining the UTME profile code early ensures candidates can print their examination slips on time and prepare adequately for the test.

Important Guidelines

1) Register at accredited CBT centres only to ensure data integrity.

2) Avoid multiple registrations as this can lead to disqualification.

3) Double-check personal information before submission.

4) Retain e-PIN receipts and profile codes for reference throughout the registration and examination process.

5) Follow updates closely in case of any changes in timelines or requirements.

Students are encouraged to plan their registration early, verify all personal and academic information, and adhere strictly to the guidelines. Doing so not only ensures eligibility but also reduces the risk of complications during the exam.

By staying organized, following the rules, and completing all steps within the timelines, candidates can focus on preparing for the 2026 UTME confidently.
