Operatives of the Kebbi State Hisbah Board have arrested 25 youths during a raid on a hotel in Argungu, in what authorities described as part of an ongoing crackdown on immoral conduct and social vices in the state. The operation, which has drawn public attention because of the number of people arrested, reportedly took place on July 3 and involved a joint enforcement action targeting what the board described as immoral activities taking place within the hotel premises.

According to officials of the Kebbi Hisbah Board, the raid led to the arrest of 25 suspects, made up of 12 males and 13 females. Authorities said the operation was carried out in Argungu as part of broader efforts to uphold public morality, enforce social order, and discourage conduct considered contrary to the moral and religious values promoted by the state’s Hisbah structure. The arrests were reportedly confirmed by Sirajo Kamba, Director of Shariah of the board, who said the suspects were apprehended during a targeted operation at the hotel.

The Kebbi Hisbah Board described the raid as part of its ongoing campaign against social vices across the state. According to the board, such operations are aimed at discouraging immoral behaviour, protecting public decency, and maintaining peace within communities. Authorities say they are particularly concerned about activities that may encourage disorder, undermine family values, or violate laws and moral codes observed in the state.

Officials have indicated that the suspects will be investigated in accordance with the law, and that anyone found culpable after due process may face legal consequences. At this stage, the arrests remain allegations, and the board says it intends to conduct a proper investigation before any final action is taken.

The incident therefore marks the beginning of a legal and administrative process that could determine whether the suspects are formally charged or released.

Cases involving Hisbah raids often trigger strong public reactions because they sit at the intersection of religion, law, morality, and personal freedom. Supporters of Hisbah operations argue that the board plays an important role in preserving public morality and discouraging behaviour that could harm the social fabric of communities. Critics, however, sometimes raise questions about privacy, due process, and the limits of morality-based enforcement, especially when hotel raids or social gatherings are involved.

The latest raid in Argungu reflects a pattern seen in several northern states where Hisbah authorities periodically carry out enforcement actions against activities they consider immoral or socially harmful. These operations can include raids on hotels, nightlife venues, or locations suspected of hosting conduct deemed unacceptable under local moral or religious standards.

For residents of such states, the activities of Hisbah remain a major part of the wider conversation around public behaviour, religious values, and community discipline.

The arrest of 25 youths in a hotel raid in Argungu has placed Kebbi’s Hisbah Board back in the spotlight as it intensifies efforts against what it calls immoral acts and social vices. While the suspects remain under investigation, the operation has already reignited debate about morality enforcement, public decency, and the role of religious-backed institutions in policing social conduct.

As the legal process unfolds, attention will remain on what exactly investigators uncover and whether formal charges will follow.
