Federal Government Delegation Visits Oyo Communities After School Abduction, Promises Stronger Security Response
A high-level Federal Government delegation has visited Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following a disturbing abduction incident that affected pupils and teachers from multiple schools in the area.
The visit comes in the aftermath of the May 15, 2026 attack on Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School, where armed attackers reportedly abducted dozens of students and staff members, sparking widespread concern across the country.
According to reports, the attack occurred when armed men stormed the school premises and forcefully took away pupils and teachers during school hours. The incident immediately threw surrounding communities into panic, with families rushing to schools in search of their children.
The abduction, involving an estimated 45 to 46 victims, quickly gained national attention and triggered renewed calls for improved security in rural and school environments, particularly in areas considered vulnerable to criminal activity.
In response to the incident, the Federal Government deployed a high-powered delegation to the affected communities to assess the situation, engage with residents, and coordinate security efforts.
The delegation was led by top government and security officials, including senior representatives from the presidency and national security agencies. During the visit, they met directly with community leaders, school authorities, and families of the abducted victims.
Officials used the opportunity to reassure residents that efforts to rescue the abducted pupils and teachers were ongoing and being handled as a priority by security forces.
Beyond reassurances, the government also announced additional measures aimed at strengthening security in the region. One of the key steps discussed was the planned deployment of forest-based security personnel to improve surveillance in rural and hard-to-reach areas where criminal groups often operate.
Authorities also emphasized the importance of intelligence-driven operations, increased patrols, and closer collaboration with local communities to prevent future attacks.
Residents of Esiele and Yawota expressed a mix of relief and anxiety during the visit. While many appreciated the government’s physical presence and commitment, concerns remain about the safety of schools and the ability of security agencies to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Parents of abducted children continue to hold on to hope as they await updates on rescue efforts.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing challenge of protecting educational institutions in rural parts of Nigeria. Over the years, school abductions have become a recurring issue in some regions, prompting calls for long-term solutions beyond emergency responses.
Security analysts argue that sustained investment in intelligence gathering, rapid response systems, and local security networks is essential to addressing the root of the problem.
