The operation’s first major success saw security operatives rescue five kidnapped victims and neutralize four suspected kidnappers during a fierce exchange of gunfire, reinforcing the renewed commitment of law enforcement agencies to restoring safety on one of Nigeria’s busiest transport routes.
Operation Kósàyè was introduced as a collaborative policing initiative designed to strengthen security cooperation between neighbouring states that share common criminal threats. The operation focuses on intelligence sharing, coordinated patrols, rapid emergency response, and joint tactical operations across border communities and major highways frequently targeted by criminal gangs.
Police authorities believe closer collaboration between both commands will improve response time and make it more difficult for criminals to exploit jurisdictional boundaries.
According to police authorities, intelligence received by security operatives led officers to a suspected kidnappers’ hideout located around the Ogbere area near the Sagamu–Benin Expressway.
As officers moved in to rescue the victims, the suspects reportedly opened fire in an attempt to resist arrest. Security personnel responded, leading to a gun battle during which four suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded.
Following the operation, officers successfully rescued five abducted victims from captivity. The victims were later taken to safety, where they received medical attention and support after their ordeal.
Beyond the rescue operation, police disclosed that dozens of additional suspects were arrested during coordinated raids carried out across Lagos and Ogun States. The arrests form part of wider efforts to dismantle criminal syndicates involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, cult-related violence, and other organised crimes affecting residents and travellers.
Investigations are continuing to identify additional members of the criminal networks and recover more weapons used in their operations.
The Lagos–Ogun transport corridor remains one of Nigeria’s busiest economic routes, linking commercial centres, industrial zones, and interstate highways. Unfortunately, parts of the corridor have also witnessed repeated incidents of kidnapping and violent attacks, particularly in isolated areas where dense vegetation provides cover for criminal groups. The launch of Operation Kósàyè is intended to increase security presence along these vulnerable locations and improve public confidence.
Some of the rescued victims reportedly appealed for sustained security measures along the expressway. They called for increased police patrols, improved surveillance, regular highway checkpoints, and the clearing of overgrown bushes that could serve as hiding places for criminals.
Security experts have long argued that environmental management, combined with visible policing, can significantly reduce opportunities for criminal attacks.
Police authorities say Operation Kósàyè is not a one-off exercise but part of a long-term strategy to reduce violent crime across both states. Officials emphasized that intelligence-led policing, community cooperation, and joint tactical operations will remain central to the initiative. Residents have also been encouraged to continue providing timely information that could assist security agencies in preventing future attacks.

The successful launch of Operation Kósàyè represents an important step in the fight against kidnapping and organised crime along the Lagos–Ogun corridor. With five victims rescued and four suspected kidnappers neutralized during the operation, the initiative has already demonstrated its potential to strengthen regional security.
As operations continue, many Nigerians will be watching closely to see whether the new security partnership delivers lasting improvements in public safety across both states.
