Nnewi Native Doctor Fails to Summon Crocodile at River Shrine After Arrest

“Summon the Crocodile!” — Drama as Nnewi Native Doctor Fails to Invoke Spirit at River Shrine

Fresh drama unfolded in Nnewi, Anambra State, after a native doctor identified as Aka Mmuo Mmiri reportedly led security operatives to his alleged river shrine following his arrest earlier in the day. The traditional practitioner had earlier made headlines after publicly apologising to the state government over claims that he had been performing unusual sacrifices in natural waters.

According to reports, operatives of the Agunechemba Security Outfit escorted the suspect to a river where he allegedly performs spiritual invocations. Eyewitnesses said the native doctor claimed he could summon spiritual forces at the location, including a crocodile believed to be linked to the shrine. Security operatives reportedly gave him time to demonstrate the claim by calling the crocodile from the river. However, despite the wait and the alleged ritual attempts, no crocodile appeared.

Following the unsuccessful attempt, the operatives reportedly proceeded to search the suspect’s residence as part of ongoing investigations. Authorities are said to be trying to determine whether the shrine is connected to any criminal activities or ritual practices currently under scrutiny in the state.

The development is part of the broader crackdown on suspected ritual operations across Anambra State under the administration of Chukwuma Soludo.

The incident quickly spread across social media, with many Nigerians expressing mixed reactions. Some people mocked the failed attempt to summon the crocodile, while others argued that spiritual matters should not be tested in such a public manner. Others also questioned whether the alleged shrine activities were truly criminal or simply part of traditional spiritual beliefs.

Stories like this often ignite heated debates between traditional beliefs and modern law enforcement. While authorities have a responsibility to tackle crimes linked to ritual practices, it is also important that investigations are handled carefully so that cultural traditions are not unfairly misrepresented.

For many residents, the real concern remains security and the fear of ritual-related crimes, which authorities say they are determined to address.
