Nnewi Native Doctor Apologises to Anambra Government After Arrest for Performing Sacrifices in Natural Waters

I Won’t Perform Sacrifices in Anambra Waters Again” – Native Doctor Publicly Apologises After Arrest

A native doctor popularly known as Aka Mmuo Mmiri has publicly apologised to the Anambra State government after being paraded by operatives of the state security outfit over alleged ritual activities. The traditional practitioner, said to be from Nnewi, admitted that he had been performing unusual sacrifices in natural water bodies within the state and pledged that such actions would never happen again.

During the parade by operatives of  Agunechemba Security Outfit, the native doctor expressed regret for his actions and appealed for forgiveness from the government and people of the state.

In his words;

          “I am apologizing to the Anambra State Government led by Governor Chukwuma Soludo. I will not make the mistake of performing unusual sacrifices in the natural waters of Anambra again”

The statement came after he was reportedly arrested during ongoing operations aimed at addressing criminal activities linked to ritual practices in parts of the state.

The administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has intensified efforts to combat ritual-related crimes, kidnapping, and other forms of insecurity in Anambra State.  Security operatives have been carrying out raids on suspected hideouts, shrines, and locations believed to be connected with criminal activities. Authorities say the crackdown is necessary to restore public confidence and ensure the safety of residents.

The development has generated mixed reactions among residents of the state. While some people praised the government’s action as a bold step toward tackling ritual crimes, others called for thorough investigations to ensure that innocent traditional practitioners are not wrongly targeted.

Many residents also believe that cultural and spiritual practices should not be confused with criminal activities, urging authorities to carefully distinguish between both.

                   EverydayStoryNetwork Perspective

The fight against ritual-related crimes is important, especially when such practices are believed to contribute to insecurity and fear in communities. However, it is equally important that enforcement actions are fair, transparent, and supported by evidence, so that genuine cultural traditions are not unfairly stigmatized.

The real challenge lies in balancing cultural respect with public safety.

Should authorities continue arresting suspected ritualists?

Or should traditional practices be protected unless proven criminal?
