NDLEA Arrests 74-Year-Old Man With 11kg Cocaine at Abuja Airport While Traveling to UK
74-Year-Old Grandfather Arrested at Abuja Airport With 11kg of Cocaine While Trying to Travel to UK
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 74-year-old Nigerian man attempting to smuggle 11 kilograms of cocaine out of the country through Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The elderly suspect, identified as Ikwuakalom Nwakoro Emeka, was reportedly preparing to board a **British Airways flight bound for London in the United Kingdom when NDLEA officers intercepted him.The arrest has shocked many Nigerians, especially because of the suspect’s advanced age, raising questions about how someone in his seventies allegedly became involved in international drug trafficking.
According to NDLEA officials, the drugs were cleverly hidden inside food items, including dry pepper and other packaged materials. Investigators revealed that the cocaine was carefully wrapped in balloons and foil papers in an attempt to evade airport security detection. However, during a routine inspection at the departure terminal, NDLEA officers discovered the suspicious items inside his luggage. Further examination revealed the 11kg consignment of cocaine, leading to his immediate arrest.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly told authorities that he was traveling to London for a vacation. However, investigators are continuing their probe to determine whether he was acting alone or working for a larger drug trafficking network. The NDLEA has not ruled out the possibility that drug cartels may be using elderly individuals as couriers to avoid suspicion at airports.

This incident has sparked concern among many Nigerians, with some observers noting that economic hardship and criminal networks are pushing people of different age groups into drug trafficking. Experts warn that international drug cartels often recruit vulnerable individuals, including the elderly, by promising quick money.
However, the consequences can be severe, including long prison sentences and international criminal charges.

EverydayStoryNetwork Thoughts
Stories like this are both shocking and tragic. At 74 years old, many people expect a grandfather to be enjoying retirement and spending time with family, not being arrested for international drug trafficking. If the allegations are proven true, it shows how dangerous and far-reaching the drug trade has become. At the same time, this should serve as a warning to others that drug trafficking rarely ends well. The risks, arrest, imprisonment, and public disgrace, are simply not worth the temporary financial reward.
What Do You Think?
Do you believe drug cartels are now using elderly people to smuggle drugs because they attract less suspicion?
Or do you think people should be fully responsible for their choices regardless of age?
