Multiple Bomb Explosions Rock Maiduguri, Many Feared Dead Near Monday Market

Panic in Maiduguri as Multiple Bomb Explosions Rock City, Many Feared Dead

Residents of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, were thrown into panic after multiple bomb explosions rocked parts of the city on Monday evening. According to early reports, the blasts occurred around busy areas including the popular Monday Market Maiduguri and close to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. Witnesses said the explosions were heard shortly after the evening hours, sending shockwaves across nearby communities and forcing many residents to flee for safety.

While official casualty figures have not yet been confirmed, several reports indicate that many people are feared dead, while others sustained serious injuries. Emergency responders and security personnel were immediately deployed to the affected locations to rescue victims and secure the area. Hospitals in Maiduguri are reportedly receiving injured victims as rescue efforts continue.

Residents in the affected areas said the explosions caused widespread panic. Many traders and passersby around Monday Market were said to have run in different directions immediately after hearing the loud blasts. Videos circulating on social media show chaotic scenes as people tried to escape the area.

Although authorities have not yet officially confirmed who was responsible, security analysts believe the attack may be linked to insurgent groups that have long operated in the region, including Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province. Both groups have previously carried out attacks targeting civilians, markets, and public places in northeastern Nigeria.

Security forces have now cordoned off the affected areas as investigations continue. Authorities are also urging residents to remain calm while emergency teams work to assist victims and restore order.

Further details, including the exact number of casualties and the cause of the explosions, are expected to emerge as investigations progress.

For many residents of Maiduguri, the incident is a painful reminder of the years of insecurity that have affected the region. Although security conditions in the city had improved in recent years, attacks such as this continue to raise concerns about the ongoing threat posed by insurgent groups.
