Benue Govt Disburses ₦50,000 to Yelewata Families After Deadly Bandit Attack

Benue Government Disburses ₦50,000 To Each Family Affected By Yelewata Bandit Attack

The Benue State Government has begun distributing financial assistance to families affected by the deadly attack on Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area.

Under the directive of Governor Hyacinth Alia, each impacted household is receiving ₦50,000 as immediate relief support following the devastating violence that displaced thousands and claimed many lives.

According to state officials, about 1,000 families have so far benefited from the cash intervention.

Yelewata, a farming community in Benue State, was recently thrown into mourning after armed attackers reportedly stormed the area, leaving destruction and displacement in their wake. Homes were destroyed, livelihoods disrupted, and many residents forced to seek refuge in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps and neighboring communities.

The ₦50,000 cash support is intended to provide temporary relief to affected households as they begin rebuilding their lives.

The Benue State Government says the financial support is just one part of a larger rehabilitation plan.

Authorities confirmed that additional aid includes, food distribution, temporary shelter arrangements, healthcare assistance, water and sanitation support and plans for rebuilding homes

The intervention has reportedly received backing from federal and private institutions, including support linked to the office of Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, as well as other organizations contributing to recovery efforts.

While many residents appreciate the gesture, some observers argue that long-term security solutions remain the real priority.

For affected families, however, the ₦50,000 payment represents immediate help in a time of urgent need, covering food, basic necessities, and temporary resettlement expenses.
