ICM Urges Lagos APC to Consider Seyi Tinubu for 2027 Governorship Race

Civic Group Urges Lagos APC to Consider Seyi Tinubu for 2027 Governorship Race

A civic advocacy group, the Independent Civic Movement (ICM), has called on the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider Seyi Tinubu as a possible contender for the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The call was made public by the group’s coordinator, Rabiu Kazeem, who addressed journalists while announcing the movement’s position. According to him, the recommendation followed a series of internal consultations and an assessment of Seyi Tinubu’s qualifications, public engagements, and social impact initiatives.

Kazeem explained that the endorsement aligns with ICM’s ongoing advocacy initiative known as the ST Project, which he described as a framework aimed at promoting leadership discussions and civic participation.

The ICM coordinator was quick to clarify that the movement is not affiliated with any political party, stressing that it operates strictly as a civic platform focused on advocacy, citizen engagement, and public mobilisation.

“We are not an organ of any political party,” Kazeem stated, noting that the group’s role is to stimulate conversations around leadership, governance, and national development.

According to ICM, its recommendation is anchored on what it described as constitutional eligibility, leadership capacity, and exposure. The group also cited Seyi Tinubu’s involvement in youth-focused programmes and healthcare-related interventions, which it said were carried out through private initiatives rather than political structures.

The movement believes these engagements reflect qualities it considers relevant for future leadership in Lagos State, particularly at a time when governance debates are increasingly centred on youth inclusion and social development.

As of the time of reporting, the Lagos State APC has not issued any official response to the group’s call. Similarly, there has been no public statement from Seyi Tinubu regarding the endorsement or any intention to seek the governorship ticket.

The development adds to the growing political conversations around the 2027 elections, especially in Lagos State, where succession politics within the ruling party continues to attract public attention.
