Anambra Police Increase Surveillance Amid Sit-At-Home Rumours Linked to IPOB

Anambra Police Increase Security Over Sit-At-Home Rumours linked to IPOB

Residents of Anambra State have recently faced uncertainty following reports of a possible sit-at-home order linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). In response, the Anambra State Police Command has increased surveillance and security operations across the state. However, conflicting claims surrounding the alleged directive have raised questions about what is factual and what is speculation.

The Anambra State Police confirmed that it intensified security presence after intelligence reports showed that sit-at-home messages were circulating, particularly on social media platforms. These messages raised concerns about potential disruptions to public safety and economic activities.

The police action is preventive in nature. According to security officials, the goal is to maintain law and order, prevent intimidation, and reassure residents that they can go about their lawful activities without fear.

While online messages suggested that IPOB had declared a sit-at-home, official voices associated with the group have disputed the authenticity of those claims. Legal representatives linked to IPOB stated that the directive circulating online was not authorized.

This contradiction contributed to public anxiety and prompted security agencies to act proactively, as past sit-at-home calls, whether official or not, have previously led to deserted streets and economic losses in the South-East.

The Anambra State Government has maintained that there is no officially recognized sit-at-home order in place. Authorities have continued to encourage residents, traders, and workers to carry on with normal activities while warning against compliance with unlawful directives.

Government officials have emphasized that any restriction on movement must come through lawful channels and not through anonymous or unverified announcements.

The increased police surveillance in Anambra reflects a security response to uncertainty rather than confirmation of a sit-at-home order. As authorities work to prevent fear and disruption, residents are encouraged to remain calm, verify information, and continue their daily activities peacefully.
