Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has called on Nigerians, particularly the youth, to come out in large numbers for the 2027 presidential election, emphasizing the importance of active participation in shaping the nation’s future.

In a statement reflecting on past elections, Yesufu noted the challenges faced in 2023, saying:

“That yesterday died last night and we cannot  the momentum of the past into the present. Otherwise, it is going to affect our future! I know all of you were pained at what happened in the 2023 election. They rigged us in 2023, shame on them. If they rig us in 2027, it will be shame on us”

Her remarks come as a reminder that while past election disappointments were painful, citizens’ engagement today is crucial to prevent a repeat scenario.

Yesufu urged the Nigerian populace to exercise their voting rights responsibly, stressing that change is possible if citizens turn out en masse and vote for candidates of their choice:

- Youth participation: She highlighted the pivotal role young Nigerians can play in shaping political outcomes.

- Awareness and accountability: Voters must be informed and vigilant to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

- Active engagement: Beyond voting, Nigerians are encouraged to monitor the process, report irregularities, and advocate for free and fair elections.

The activist framed the upcoming 2027 election as an opportunity for Nigerians to take charge of their destiny, ensuring that lessons from previous elections inform stronger participation:

“If we truly want change in the country, every eligible voter must show up and make their voice heard”

Observers note that statements like Yesufu’s are likely to energize the youth and civil society groups to increase voter awareness and turnout ahead of the 2027 polls.

Aisha Yesufu’s message is a timely reminder of the power of the ballot box. With the 2027 presidential election approaching, the role of informed and active citizens, especially young Nigerians, will be critical in shaping the nation’s political trajectory and safeguarding democracy.
