Five Soldiers, Police Inspector Killed in Fresh Zamfara Ambush
Another deadly attack has struck Nigeria’s security forces in Zamfara State, as armed terrorists ambushed a joint security patrol, killing five Nigerian Army soldiers and one police inspector.
The incident occurred along a key route in the state while the team was on official duty. The attackers reportedly struck suddenly, opening fire from concealed positions and overwhelming the patrol before reinforcements could arrive. Several other personnel sustained injuries and were taken to medical facilities for treatment.
Security sources say the assailants escaped into nearby bush paths and forested areas, a tactic commonly used by armed groups operating in the region. Following the attack, additional troops and security operatives were deployed to the area to secure the route and begin a coordinated pursuit of the attackers.
Zamfara has remained one of the states most affected by violent attacks, ambushes, and banditry, despite ongoing military operations aimed at restoring stability. The latest incident highlights the persistent risks faced by security personnel and the evolving tactics of armed groups in the North-West.
