The Enugu State Police Command has arrested four suspected drug peddlers in what officers described as a coordinated operation aimed at dismantling drug distribution networks within the state.
According to police sources, the suspects were apprehended during intelligence-led raids carried out in different parts of Enugu. The operation led to the recovery of ₦1.8 million in cash, believed to be proceeds from illicit drug sales, alongside quantities of cannabis and other suspected hard drugs.
Security operatives said the arrests followed weeks of surveillance after residents raised concerns about suspicious activities linked to drug trafficking in the affected areas. Acting on the information, police teams moved in simultaneously, preventing the suspects from escaping.
During the operation, officers recovered:
- Large wraps of suspected cannabis
- Other illicit substances believed to be hard drugs
- ₦1.8 million in cash
- Items suspected to be used for drug packaging and distribution
The suspects were immediately taken into custody for interrogation.
The Enugu State Police Command described the arrest as part of its renewed effort to rid the state of drug-related crimes, which often fuel robbery, violence, and other forms of insecurity.
A police spokesperson stated that drug abuse and trafficking remain a major threat to public safety, especially among young people, stressing that the command would not relent in its crackdown.
