The Nigerian Army has confirmed the dismissal of a soldier for allegedly leaking sensitive footage showing the aftermath of a Boko Haram improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Borno State. The incident, which resulted in multiple casualties among both military personnel and civilians, has drawn national attention due to the graphic nature of the video circulating online.
According to official statements, the leaked video is considered classified military information. The Army emphasized that sharing such content publicly not only jeopardizes operational security but also endangers ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in the northeast.
The dismissed soldier, whose name is Mansur Adam, reportedly recorded and disseminated the footage without authorization. The Army stated that the decision to terminate the individual’s service was taken to reinforce discipline and uphold the integrity of military operations.
The Nigerian Army also appealed to members of the public to avoid sharing unverified or sensitive military content, warning that such actions can compromise security and put lives at risk. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the leak and are reviewing protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Borno State remains one of the most volatile regions in Nigeria due to repeated Boko Haram insurgent attacks. Security agencies continue to carry out operations aimed at protecting civilians and dismantling insurgent networks, highlighting the importance of operational secrecy and adherence to military protocols.
