JAMB Confirms NIN as Mandatory Requirement for 2026 UTME Registration
JAMB Confirms NIN as Mandatory Requirement for 2026 UTME Registration
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reaffirmed that candidates must obtain a National Identification Number (NIN) before registering for the 2026 UTME and Direct Entry examinations.
This requirement means that no candidate can begin the JAMB registration process without first being captured in Nigeria’s national identity database.
According to JAMB, the NIN has become the foundation of its registration system. It is now used to:
-Create a candidate’s JAMB profile
-Verify personal data such as name, date of birth, and biometrics
-Prevent multiple registrations and identity fraud
Without a valid NIN, a candidate cannot generate a JAMB profile code, which is compulsory for UTME or Direct Entry registration.
Before visiting any CBT centre, candidates are required to:
1) Obtain their 11-digit NIN from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
2) Use the NIN to generate a JAMB profile code via SMS.
3Present the profile code at an accredited JAMB CBT centre to complete registration.
JAMB has made it clear that no exceptions will be granted, even for candidates who have written UTME in previous years.
The board explained that the NIN requirement helps to:
-Eliminate impersonation and exam malpractice
-Ensure accurate candidate records
-Align JAMB’s database with national identity systems
-Improve transparency and credibility in admissions
By linking UTME registration to NIN, JAMB says it is protecting both candidates and institutions.
Prospective candidates are advised to:
-Start the NIN enrollment process early
-Ensure their personal details are correct during NIMC registration
-Avoid middlemen or unofficial agents
-Resolve any NIN-related issues before JAMB registration begins
Parents are also encouraged to assist their children in completing the NIN process on time to avoid last-minute stress.
With the 2026 UTME approaching, having a NIN is no longer optional, it is compulsory. Candidates who delay obtaining their NIN risk missing out on the registration entirely.
JAMB’s message is simple: No NIN, no UTME registration.
