Fuel Tanker Overturns at Tincan Liverpool Bridge, Apapa as Crowd Scoops Petrol

Fuel Tanker Overturns at Tincan Liverpool Bridge, Apapa as Residents Scoop Fuel

A fuel tanker overturned on Tuesday at the busy Tincan Liverpool Bridge in Apapa, Lagos, causing traffic disruption and drawing a large crowd to the scene.

Eyewitnesses said the tanker fell beneath the bridge, spilling its contents. Shortly after the accident, several people were seen scooping fuel directly from the overturned tanker, despite the obvious danger and strong smell of petrol in the area.

The incident triggered panic among motorists and residents, as fuel spills are highly flammable and pose a serious risk of explosion. Some drivers abandoned their vehicles to avoid being caught in a possible fire outbreak, worsening congestion along the Apapa corridor.

As of the time of reporting, emergency responders and security agencies were expected at the scene to control the situation, prevent further fuel scooping, and secure the area. No official confirmation has been given regarding casualties or the cause of the accident.

Safety experts continue to warn that fuel scooping during tanker accidents is extremely dangerous, often leading to fatal explosions in similar past incidents across the country. Authorities regularly urge the public to prioritize safety and allow trained emergency personnel to handle such situations.

Residents and commuters have been advised to avoid the area while cleanup and safety operations are underway.
