Enugu State Receives ₦1.27bn Recovered Funds After EFCC Investigation
Enugu State Takes Custody of ₦1.27 Billion Recovered From Construction Firm
The Enugu State Government has officially received over ₦1.27 billion recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with a disputed construction contract involving a Lagos-based luxury construction firm.
The funds were returned to the state following investigations into payments made for a public infrastructure project that was allegedly not executed in line with agreed terms.
The recovery followed a petition by the Enugu State Government after concerns were raised over a school construction project awarded under a previous administration. Substantial funds had reportedly been paid to the contractor, but progress on the project fell short of expectations, prompting government intervention.
The EFCC subsequently launched an investigation, tracing part of the funds and initiating recovery proceedings.
At a formal handover ceremony, officials of the anti-graft agency presented the recovered amount to representatives of the Enugu State Government. The commission stated that the recovery was part of its mandate to protect public funds and ensure that money lost through contract irregularities is returned to the rightful owners.
