Armed Men Kill Five in Fresh Attack on Benue Community

Fresh Violence in Benue: Armed Men Kill Five Residents in Night Attack

Fear and mourning have returned to parts of Benue State following a deadly attack by armed men that left five people dead in a rural community.

The incident occurred in the late hours of the day when residents were going about their normal activities, unaware that danger was approaching. According to accounts from community members, the attackers stormed the area suddenly, opening fire and causing panic as people ran for safety.

By the time calm was restored, five lifeless bodies had been recovered, sending shockwaves through the community and surrounding villages.

Witnesses said the assailants arrived in groups and struck without warning. The sound of gunshots forced residents indoors, while others fled into nearby bushes in a desperate attempt to escape.

Those killed were said to be locals who had no means of defending themselves. Some were reportedly attacked while returning from their farms, highlighting the growing danger faced by rural farmers in the state.

Following the attack, the community descended into mourning. Families of the victims were seen wailing as neighbors gathered to console one another. Many residents say they are now living in fear, unsure of when the next attack might happen.

Some villagers have begun considering abandoning their homes temporarily, citing repeated violence and the absence of adequate security presence in the area.

This latest incident adds to ongoing concerns about insecurity in Benue State, where communities have repeatedly complained of attacks by armed groups. Residents say the lack of quick response from security agencies often leaves them exposed and vulnerable.

Calls are growing for stronger security patrols, improved intelligence gathering, and decisive action to prevent further loss of innocent lives.

Community leaders are urging both state and federal authorities to take urgent steps to protect lives and property. They stress that farming communities cannot continue to live in constant fear, especially as agriculture remains the backbone of local livelihoods.

As investigations continue, residents hope that those responsible will be identified and brought to justice, and that lasting peace can finally return to their community.
