When Advocacy Turns Chaotic: Inside the Explosion Rift Between VDM and Harrison Gwamnishu

December 2025 delivered one of the most heated clashes in Nigeria’s activist space, a confrontation that began as a rescue mission and ended in a storm of accusations, police arrests, and a nation divided.


At the center of this unfolding drama were two widely recognized figures:

Harrison Gwamnishu, the activist known for bold rescue operations, and

VDM, the fearless social commentator unafraid to call out anyone.


What started as a mission to help kidnapped victims in Edo State quickly mutated into a nationwide conversation about trust, morality, and the dangers of activism.


How the Entire Controversy Ignited

According to the victim’s relatives, Gwamnishu was deeply involved in coordinating the rescue of a kidnapped couple. With public support and donations pouring in, over ₦20 million was reportedly gathered.

But when only the pregnant wife was released and her husband remained captive, suspicion began to rise.

The family publicly alleged that a portion of the ransom funds never reached the kidnappers, pointing fingers at the activist himself.

The moment the accusations hit the internet, social media erupted.

But Gwamnishu responded almost immediately and intensely.

He dismissed every allegation, describing them as a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation.

He insisted his role was never to handle payments, only to assist with intelligence.

According to him, the release of the wife was the kidnappers’ decision, not the result of any failed plan or misappropriated money.

He claimed he had done everything in his power to support the rescue.

VDM’s Bombshell and the Sudden Turn of Events

But then came the twist that changed everything.


VDM released a video admitting he had directly contacted the police after receiving disturbing information from Auchi.


He said the details he reviewed, including a video shared with him privately, painted a suspicious picture.

Feeling morally obligated, he took the matter to law enforcement, an action he claimed was done to protect the victims’ family and the public.


This report led to Gwamnishu’s arrest in Benin, Edo State.


VDM then went further, asserting that:

  • Gwamnishu’s truck was confiscated
  • Police recovered ₦5.4 million, allegedly tied to the ransom
  • The activist’s public defense video was “an attempt to emotionally manipulate viewers”

This intensified the controversy, transforming what looked like an online disagreement into a full-blown national debate.
