The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made a major development in Nigeria’s ongoing fight against corruption, tracing 41 properties worth an estimated ₦212.8 billion to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz Malami.

The properties, spanning Kebbi State, Kano State, and the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja), reportedly include universities, hotels, schools, residential estates, commercial properties, factories, and other facilities. Specifically, Kebbi State accounts for about ₦162 billion, Kano State ₦16 billion, and FCT ₦34.6 billion of the total valuation.
Alongside the asset tracing, the federal government has filed a 16-count money laundering charge against the Malamis, citing alleged concealment of funds and illicit acquisition of assets. EFCC operatives have reportedly conducted searches at multiple properties and offices linked to the family as the investigation progresses.
The move signals a renewed effort by Nigerian authorities to ensure accountability and transparency at all levels of governance, sending a clear message that no one is above the law.
While the case is still under judicial review, the scale of the assets uncovered underscores the magnitude of corruption challenges in the country. Citizens and observers continue to watch closely as the EFCC’s investigation unfolds.
