Libya to Repatriate Remains of Military Chief and Advisers After Tragic Plane Crash in Turkey


A sombre chapter has opened in Libya’s military and diplomatic history following the confirmation that the remains of the country’s Chief of Staff and his advisers, who died in a plane crash near Ankara, Turkey, will be returned home this Saturday.


The announcement was made by Turkey’s Ministry of Defence, bringing a measure of closure after days of uncertainty surrounding the tragic incident.



The Libyan military delegation was on an official mission in Turkey when the aircraft conveying them crashed shortly after take-off near Ankara. Authorities confirmed that all occupants on board lost their lives, including Libya’s Chief of Staff and several senior advisers.

Initial reports indicate that the aircraft encountered technical difficulties moments after departure. Turkish emergency responders and aviation authorities moved swiftly to secure the crash site and begin investigations.





Following the incident, Turkish authorities coordinated closely with Libyan officials. The Turkish military held a formal honour ceremony for the deceased, recognising the high-level status of the delegation and the diplomatic ties between both countries.


The remains are scheduled to be flown back to Libya, where national mourning and military honours are expected to follow.





The death of the Chief of Staff is not just a personal tragedy for families involved, it represents a significant institutional loss for Libya’s armed forces at a time when the country continues to navigate security reforms, political transitions, and regional stability challenges.
