In a recent broadcast that has continued to spark conversations nationwide, the Chief Executive Officer of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) made a passionate appeal to the Nigerian government and stakeholders to prioritize locally produced goods as a strategic solution to some of the country’s most pressing challenges.
According to the industrialist, supporting Nigerian-made products is not just about economic patriotism, it is a security strategy, a job-creation policy, and a pathway to national stability.
| “When you empower local industries, you engage the youth. And when the youth are engaged, insecurity reduces” he emphasized! |
Innocent Chukwuma highlighted the direct link between youth unemployment and rising insecurity across the country. He explained that when factories operate at full capacity, they absorb thousands of young people who would otherwise be idle, frustrated, and vulnerable to crime or manipulation.
By encouraging local manufacturing, the nation can reduce youth restiveness, minimize dependence on imported goods, cut down crime linked to unemployment, and strengthen community-based economies. He stressed that job creation is the most sustainable form of security.
Expressing delight, the IVM boss praised some state governments that have already taken bold steps to patronize locally manufactured products. He specifically acknowledged the adoption of, lnnoson vehicles, SNG buses, and other Nigerian-made transportation solutions. According to him, these actions send a strong message of confidence in local capacity and encourage manufacturers to expand further.
In a major revelation during the broadcast, the CEO disclosed plans to build another manufacturing company in Nsukka, Enugu State, as part of his long-term vision to expand production and employment opportunities. He further stated that after Nsukka, similar facilities are planned for, Northern Nigeria, and South-West Nigeria. The goal, he said, is simple but powerful, to create jobs across regions and reduce economic imbalance.
The broadcast also reignited the broader conversation on why countries must consciously support their own industries. Key benefits include, mass employment opportunities, reduced capital flight, stronger local currency, industrial skill development, and national pride and self-reliance. The CEO emphasized that no nation becomes industrialized by abandoning its own producers.
The message from the Innoson CEO is clear. Nigeria has the talent, the manpower, and the ideas. What is needed is policy consistency, government patronage, and public trust in local products. If embraced fully, local manufacturing could become the backbone of Nigeria’s economic revival and a lasting solution to insecurity.
