Outrage as University of Ibadan Lecturer Allegedly Assaulted by Railway Security Operatives at Ibadan Train Station

Tension and outrage have followed reports that a lecturer from the University of Ibadan was allegedly brutalized by security personnel attached to Nigeria’s railway system at a train station in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The victim, identified as Dr. Abdulsam, is said to be a lecturer in the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the institution.

According to reports, the lecturer had visited the train station simply to escort someone who was traveling. However, what should have been an ordinary moment reportedly turned into a distressing confrontation.

Witnesses claimed that an argument broke out between the lecturer and security operatives stationed at the railway facility. The situation allegedly escalated quickly, leading to the lecturer being physically attacked by the operatives. The incident reportedly happened at the Nigerian Railway Corporation train station in Ibadan.

Eyewitness accounts circulating online claim the lecturer was manhandled and beaten, an action that has since sparked anger among members of the public.

The reported assault has triggered strong reactions on social media, with many Nigerians condemning what they describe as abuse of power by security personnel. Several commentators expressed concern that incidents like this continue to damage the public’s trust in security agencies responsible for protecting citizens. Others have called on authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the altercation and ensure accountability if the claims are confirmed.

As discussions around the incident continue to grow, many Nigerians are urging the Nigeria Railway Corporation and relevant authorities to open a thorough investigation into the matter.

Observers say that incidents involving civilians and security officials must be handled transparently to prevent future occurrences and to restore public confidence.

Universities represent knowledge, discipline, and national development. When educators — individuals who dedicate their lives to shaping the next generation, are allegedly treated with violence in public spaces, it raises serious questions about respect, authority, and accountability in society. If verified fully, many believe justice must be served and lessons must be learned to prevent similar incidents in the future.
