Fatal Multiple-Trailer Accident Claims Lives Along Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway

A tragic road accident occurred in the early hours of today along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway in Enugu State, involving multiple heavy-duty trailers and a commercial tricycle (popularly known as Keke). The crash has left several people feared dead, with others sustaining serious injuries.

Eyewitnesses reported that two moving trailers collided with another trailer that was parked along the highway, with a tricycle caught in the impact. The collision was described as extremely severe, resulting in extensive damage to the vehicles involved and a chaotic scene at the accident site.

The incident reportedly happened during the early morning hours when traffic was still light. Preliminary observations suggest that poor visibility, possible over-speeding, and the improper parking of a heavy-duty trailer on the expressway may have contributed to the crash. However, official investigations are still ongoing.

While multiple casualties have been reported, the exact number of deaths and injuries has not yet been officially confirmed by the relevant authorities as of the time of this report.

Victims who survived the crash were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention by emergency responders and good Samaritans.

Security agencies and emergency personnel arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to rescue victims, manage traffic, and clear the wreckage. The accident caused temporary disruption along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway as recovery operations were carried out.

Authorities are expected to release an official statement after a full assessment of the incident.

This tragic accident has once again drawn attention to persistent road safety concerns, including:

- Illegal parking of heavy-duty vehicles on highways

- Poor visibility during early morning hours

- Non-compliance with traffic and safety regulations by trailer drivers
