11 Terrorists Surrender as Troops Neutralise Eight in Borno
Security operations against insurgency in the North-East recorded another significant development as eleven suspected terrorists surrendered to Nigerian troops in Borno State, while eight others were killed during combat operations.
The development occurred under Operation Hadin Kai, the ongoing military campaign aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring peace across the region.
According to information from the theatre of operations, the surrender took place after sustained military pressure on terrorist enclaves. The individuals, believed to be part of insurgent groups operating in remote parts of Borno, reportedly laid down their arms and submitted themselves to troops.
Military sources indicated that the decision to surrender was influenced by continuous offensives, intelligence-led raids, and the disruption of supply routes, which have made survival increasingly difficult for armed groups.
While receiving the surrendered suspects, troops also engaged other armed elements who resisted arrest. Eight terrorists were neutralised during a gun battle, while two suspected logistics suppliers were arrested.
The arrested individuals are believed to have been responsible for providing food, fuel, and other supplies to terrorist groups operating in the area, a critical lifeline that enables insurgent activities.
Recovered items reportedly include weapons, ammunition, communication devices, and materials suspected to be used for logistics support.
Military authorities confirmed that the surrendered suspects are currently undergoing preliminary screening and interrogation. This process will help determine their level of involvement, roles within the groups, and possible pathways for prosecution or rehabilitation, in line with existing deradicalisation and reintegration frameworks.
Security experts note that surrender by fighters often signals weakening morale within terrorist ranks, especially when coupled with arrests of logistics suppliers.
Borno State has remained the epicentre of Nigeria’s insurgency challenge for over a decade. However, the military says it remains committed to sustaining pressure on armed groups until lasting peace is achieved.
Residents in affected communities continue to call for improved security presence, humanitarian support, and long-term reconstruction efforts, as military operations progress.
While the situation remains delicate, recent developments suggest a gradual shift in momentum as security forces intensify operations against terror networks.
