Residents of Ziks Avenue in Enugu were thrown into shock late Friday night after a deadly attack that claimed the lives of two police officers on duty.


According to information gathered, the officers were on routine patrol when they were suddenly confronted by armed men whose identities are still unknown. Gunshots reportedly rang out in the area, forcing residents indoors as the attackers carried out the assault.


After shooting the officers, the assailants allegedly set the police patrol Hilux vehicle on fire, leaving it completely destroyed before escaping from the scene. The attack happened swiftly, leaving little time for intervention or reinforcement.


As of the time of filing this report, the Enugu State Police Command has not released an official statement, and the names of the deceased officers have not been disclosed. Security personnel were later seen at the scene, while investigations are believed to be ongoing.


This tragic incident has renewed concerns among residents about nighttime security and movement, especially in parts of the city that have witnessed similar attacks in the past.
